Sunscreen Ingredients, More Harm Than Good? And Safer Alternatives
Over the past decade, EWG has investigated the safety and efficiency of USA sunscreens and ingredients. They have found that due to the weak federal rules set by the FDA, many inferior products reach store shelves, touting overstated sun-protection claims, with ingredients that can be potentially harmful.
People are becoming more aware of the dangers of overexposure to the sun and its links to cancer and premature aging. But the scary part is Americans have fewer choices, and notably, more inferior protection than other countries because of the sunscreen ingredient options.
The United States Has Lower Standards For UVA Protection Than Europe
Sad but true sunscreen manufacturers that make products for the European market meet higher standards for UVA protection because they can pick and choose among seven ingredients that offer reliable protection against UVA radiation. Some of these chemicals appear to provide significant performance advantages over the sunscreen chemicals the FDA permits in products sold on the American market.
According to EWG, only two FDA-approved ingredients filter UVA rays. It leaves people in the U.S. to pick the dangers of using most brands with potentially dangerous ingredients vs. the risks of exposure to the sun.
So, what are we to do? Obviously, vowing to never go in the sun isn’t an option, but there are a lot of what we like to call “Common Sense Approaches To The Sun,” and we’d like to share these alternative approaches with you today.
Alternative Approaches To Protect Yourself From The Sun
TIP 1: Wear protective clothing, like sunglasses, brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts, and pants.
TIP 2: Refrain from going out in the sun when the rays are the strongest. (10 Am -3 Pm)
TIP 3: Seek shade, not sun. Whenever possible, sit under an umbrella, walk on the shady side of the street, etc.
TIP 4: Consider natural skincare ingredients for a safer alternative. See OUR list below.

Product Suggestion: The eye area is one of the most common areas for premature aging due to overexposure to the sun, sunburn, and let’s not forget eye squinting. Because the area under our eyes is very delicate, we suggest using our Moisturizing eye cream to replenish the sensitive skin around the eyes, decrease puffiness, even skin texture, improving the appearance of fine lines caused by the blazing sun!
Green Tea: Green tea contains high contents of polyphenols that possess potent antioxidant properties as well as vitamins. When applied to the skin, these properties help the skin resist U.V. damage and the aging effects that come with it. Topically green tea is skin calming, improves the complexion, and targets premature aging.
Product Suggestion: Ginjo’s Wake Up Toner. Toners are a must when it comes to skincare. Not only are they fantastic at ridding the skin of all impurities, but toners help reduce the appearance of pores while prepping the skin for other skincare products. And when enriched with green tea, it is the secret weapon to a healthy glowing complexion.
Ginseng: Finally, is Ginseng. It is a “superfood” for all skin types. Ginseng’s incredible rejuvenating and anti-aging qualities make it one of the most essential skincare ingredients. Enriched with phytonutrients, Ginseng is the perfect element to speed up the skins renewal process and freeing it of the free radicals that build up after overexposure to sunlight and other environmental factors.
Product Suggestion: All our products contain Korean Forest-Grown Ginseng. Which contains high contents of polyphenols that possess minerals and antioxidants that help nourish healthy, youthful, and flawless skin.
